Live Plants - Rare Jackfruit Edible Fruit

Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus)

Also known as Langka, nangka, jaca is considered to be the biggest fruit in the world which can grow up to 3 ft with almost 2 ft. diameter and weighs about 80 lbs . The tree is handsome and stately, 30 to 70 ft tall, unless pruned to desired height, with evergreen, alternate, glossy, somewhat leathery leaves to 9 in long, oval on mature wood, sometimes oblong or deeply lobed on young shoots.

The fruit is green to greenish-yellow when ripe. Once you open the fruit you will see whitish almost yellow hairy non-edible pulp all around the entire fruit. Inside the non edible pulp are the sweet (almost taste with the mixture of banana, mango and pineapple) yellow bulbs that are smooth oval shape. Inside the yellow edible pulp is a seed that is edible too once boiled.

This tree can grow large, so Zone 9a or greater is recommended. Will not survive freezing temperatures unless grown in a pot and brought inside during cold weather. This is currently growing in a 1 gallon pot.

These plants are seedlings between 6-12 inches in height.
